London Liverpool Street Station to Close for Essential Maintenance: Disruptions Expected in March
London Liverpool Street Station will be closed for five days in March, causing potential delays for passengers. The closure, announced by Network Rail, is scheduled for specific weekends: March 15, 21, 22, 28, and 29. This decision is necessary to conduct critical engineering work, ensuring the infrastructure remains reliable and safe for all rail users.
The maintenance includes roof drainage improvements at Liverpool Street, track and rail renewal near Ilford Station, and inspections of walls, tunnels, and brickwork. Additionally, track maintenance and general infrastructure upkeep will be carried out.
Katie Frost, Network Rail's Route Director for Anglia, expressed regret for the impact on weekend travel, acknowledging that railway closures are never ideal. She explained that the work is essential to deliver extensive renewals, repairs, and surveys on busy routes into London Liverpool Street, emphasizing the need for these tasks to be completed while trains are not operating for staff safety.
The Elizabeth line and London Overground Weaver line services will also be affected during these weekends, adding to the disruption. Martin Beable, Managing Director for Greater Anglia, assured passengers that these projects aim to enhance and maintain the network's efficiency, ensuring high standards of punctuality and reliability. He advised travelers to check before their journeys and allow extra time.
